you can replace just the flex on the top of the docking port very cheaply. or you can buy the whole dock connector/ringer/speaker part.

before that though is iphone recognised in itunes or does it vibrate/make tone when on charge?- ie does your phone "look" dead ? sometimes it may look dead or show no charge but this is just the lcd display is dead.
