Phone vibrates when charging after water damage

Hi.

Swam with phone, unintentionally. Perhaps 5 minutes at max 1m. Unfortunately the USB port cover had broken off months ago, and as such my S5 isn't water resistant anymore. Took phone out, tapped power button to see response. none, so removed battery. Dried phone shook out water, over 12 hours in rice.

I have tried switching it on, no response. Connected charging cable and I get a single vibration every 5 seconds, no response from power button, no response on screen. Thoughts? Do I keep drying the phone, and hope? Or am I screwed?

Cheers,

Now it manages to do the same on just battery. Once battery is in, and I press the power on button, the phone vibrates once every 5 seconds. Briefly had a screen flicker, but doesn't start up fully.

Thanks @oldturkey03. Was thinking along those lines, but I am weary of breaking the adhesive seal between the chassis and screen. May take it to a pro, since getting those supplies (adhesive, tools, etc) for cell phone repair in Botswana is very difficult.

Might still consider it if I can get those though,

Cheers,

@tyresmoke, you are going to run into plenty of issues unless you take care of the water issue first. "over 12 hours in rice" will not do anything. The rice trick is on of the greatest the greatest myth on the internet. It will absolutely not do anything other than give you a false sense of having done something. Reality is that placing a water damaged device in rice is the equivalent of doing nothing.

First thing you want to do is to remove the battery and do not try to charge or to use your phone. It is time to disassemble your phone. Use these guides to work on your phone. Once you have it open and disassembled, clean everything with high grade (90%+) isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush to clean every part of your phone. Follow this guide to see how to properly clean it. It was written for an iPhone but it is still pertinent to your phone as well. You must remove all EMI shields for a proper cleaning. While you clean, pay good attention to see if there are any broken, burned or missing components. Of course the best way would be to use an ultrasonic cleansing if you have access to it. Clean the connectors on the board as well as on the cables. Once you have it properly cleaned, you must replace the battery, reassemble and then re-evaluate. Water damage is the most difficult to diagnose and to repair since virtually any part may have shorted out.
