Screen only works when pressed on at certain spots

My laptop screen has been messed up for a few months now(out of warranty). The screen randomly stopped working, it turns on but the screen will grey, no response at all. I already diagnosed it as a LCD/connection/motherboard problem, not video card. If I press the screen in a certain way it will work until my finger is off. If I reseat the LCD by unscrewing and replacing it on the laptop lid, the special spot might change.

I used to "fix" the issue by using folded up paper to apply pressure to the bottom of the screen(which was the sweet spot at the time for a few weeks) until the spot changed for good and now requires more pressure than before to make the screen display properly. The folded up paper doesn't work anymore. I have already tried reseating the cable a few times just to see if it was a bad connection but that didn't change anything.

I'm looking for a more permanent solution other than buying an LCD screen. New screens cost around $70 right now and I would rather buy a completely new laptop than waste more money on Toshiba. I personally would've never bought a toshiba laptop but my father bought it for me to use at college even though I would've picked a better model/brand.

Is there a way to repair the screen? Does anyone else have a creative way to apply pressure the screen without me needing to use my finger?

i replaced the HP envy LCD cable but still same problem. Using a nail clipper on the bottom to keep screen bent in a bit . works as long as nail clipper is in, but not really a solution. before i replaced the cable i could not get the screen to work at all. on my way to Costco to get new laptop. not worth spending money to repair as laptop Is 5 years old. this was my first hp laptop . we have had 5 dell laptops with no issues except that they are all outdated

Chosen Solution

Since people have been looking at this post, I’ll just post my resolution, which ended up being me replacing the screen with a new one. I found the cheapest replacement screen I could find on Amazon or ebay, can’t remember which, and replaced it myself. The screen was about $50, so it was cheaper than the original $70ish. I had to google how to open the laptop and replace it myself to save more money, and it wasn’t too hard. I still have the laptop today and the screen has not had anymore problems. When you open your laptop lid, just be more gentle and you won’t break anything inside, especially these cheaper laptops where the build quality is not as solid.

ALL brands have their "weak" models (grin - even Apple).

The business models are generally very "sturdy".

Having the same problem with my laptop, even had to put a piece of paper as well.

I've opened the PC and sadly the cable doesn't seem to be the answer. As wiggling it around doesn't fix the screen as putting pressure.

I'll replace the screen and post updates
