I tried to fix my ps4 overheating and only made things worse

So my ps4 has been overheating, being really loud to the point where I can hear the fan even with noise cancelling headphones on. I tried disassembling it to fix the fan and thermal paste but I think I only made things worse. I removed the thermal paste with a wash cloth and rubbing alcohol but when I reapplied it I think I may have gotten some on the motherboard and may have screwed up putting it together. I removed the fan to try to clean it but it appeared to be totally fine. It's really loud now though, I think even worse than before. Should I try to replace the fan? What should I do?

If the fan is running really loud that means that it is most likely working fine. Thermal paste rarely causes a problem with these consoles (it may not be the highest quality paste, but it usually works fine). It's hard to know what might be going on with your console. When the older model PS4's are playing graphically intensive games they do get super loud (some louder than others). Yours may be just acting "normally" even though it is super loud. It's also possible that the APU is starting to have problems, but there is no good way to know if that's the case or not.

I wish I could give you a definitive answer but there is just no way for me to know without seeing it. I hope this helps.
