New battery is now dead.

My iPod wouldn't turn on so I figured I would change the battery. I bought one from here and replaced it. The iPod turned on after a reboot. I charged it until it said full about 4 hours. Turned it off locked it and came back later to listen to it and it is once again totally dead. Nothing, my old battery looked a little deformed/swollen on the bottom. My new replacement still looks good. Not that you can look at a battery and tell much, just thought I would mention it.

Thanks for any help. I am stranded without my classic.

Mike Freimann right now, number one thing if it charges but does not hold a charge, replace the battery once more. This will rule out the battery. If it still does not work, you should try a new charging cable and check the dock connector for any bend, broken or corroded pins. Clean it with a few puffs of compressed air.

Thanks for the quick reply.

This cord and plug has charged my IPad to a full good charge. Happy to try other cord and plug.

The new battery showed that it charged to full green battery on the iPod screen, in about three hours of charging with this set up.

I unplugged and came back a few hours later and the iPod is dead..

I have had the classic plugged in for three hours and nothing so far.

What would discharge a battery so quickly?

Are you suggesting that I buy another new battery?

A new battery is definitely something I would start with. It would be very uncommon for a Classic to have issue with draining the battery since it does not do anything else, like WiFi etc.

Thanks for the advice. I will keep you posted.
