How do I know whats the matter with my fan?

The fan of my macbook is doing a lot of noise recently, i never droped my laptop or anything. So why is it so noisy?

In another questions i've read that tej problem may be that i need to replace the thermal paste of the heat sinks, but how do i know that is the problem and not the fan?

It's always a good idea to replace thermal paste. The Macbook runs hot as it is and the thermal compound is usually cheap and not applied properly. If the Fan is making noise then it can either mean it's on it's way out, or it simply needs to be cleaned out for breathing room. What kind of noise is it making? Is it a whirring noise as when it speeds up to 6000RPM? Or, is it a louder more mechanical noise? If it's the latter, I would simply replace it. Select the exact model of MacBook you have here, and search for the fan.

Hey thanks for the quick answer!

Well, the fan makes a more louder mechanical noise, but also speeds up to 6200 rpm! it also sounds very loud running at 1500 or 2000 rpm.

i have the istat pro, and in the fan window it says EXHAUST, what does it mean? i should replace it or simply cleaned out?

I would replace it, just to be on the safe side. It's a pretty inexpensive fix and pretty easy to replace yourself.
