Bill Hawthorne not quite following you. So you have a normal picture, then that picture fades to black, but comes back up to a normal picture? How often does it do that? What have you tried to diagnose this?
Could be an inverter issue. I believe your set use CCFL's for backlighting and thus requires an inverter. Might be time to arm yourself with a multimeter and open it up.

Yes the picture intermittently flashes almost like a lightning effect then begins to fade to black and comes back again. I have not tried to diagnose.
