Why won´t my MacBook charge anymore?

Hey there,

3 days ago i woke up (having left the charger on the macbook but the macbook turned off) and the macbook just wouldnt charge anymore.

There is no light on the magsafe-adapter (no green light and no orange light).

I´m pretty sure that it´s not the cable which is broken because i got 2 of them.

Both are not working.

Well, i ordered a new "Magsafe-DC-in-Board".

Following the steps of this guide, i replaced it:

MacBook Unibody Model A1342 MagSafe Board Replacement

But it still doesnt work, still no light!

What else could it be?

Do i have to do something after replacing the Magsafe-DC-inBoard for making it work?

The Laptop still worked without problems while there was some battery left!

So i dont understand where else the problem could lie...

It just refuses to charge, everything else is working.... (well not anymore since the battery is empty now, but it did before).

Hope you got some ideas for me.

Cant continue my work and wouldnt have enough Money to buy a new one .

Thank you very much,

Felix

Start by checking the 5 pins of the magsafe connector on the power supply cable (not thecomputer). They are spring loaded and pushing them with a small pin or similar should allow them to go in flush to the plastic that they're sitting in (don't push them passed flush with the plastic or you risk getting them jammed). When you release they should snap back out. If not, clean with isopropyl alcohol and try again. Make sure they all spring.

Also make sure that both the magsafe connector and the port in the computer are clean. Any dirt can keep the pins from making contact.

Check the voltage of pins 2 and 4 of the magsafe connector (the power supply cord, not the computer). Not connected to the computer it should be about 6-8V DC. If it's 0V or around that you have a problem with the charger. That's usually this cause.

The LED may not illuminate but the battery could still be charging. Check the battery indicator at the top right. A fault in the LED circuit (@pin 3) will cause this. Very common with these adapters.

You could also carefully open the cable insulation up by the magsafe connector and use a multimeter set to read resistance to find the wires going to pins 2 and 4 of the magsafe connector, then connect the multimeter between them and read voltage. Connect the magsafe adapter to the computer. The voltage should jump from 6-8V to 14-19V. If it doesn't there's a problem with the DC-In board or the power management circuitry on the logic board.

There's more to the charging circuit than just the DC in board, so as mentioned the logic board could be damaged and need repair. However, in my experience the VAST majority of these problems are caused by a faulty power supply or magsafe connector on the power supply.
