MacBook logic board failure

How common is it or a 8 year old Macbook Pro to get a bad logic board ? I'm still not sold on what Apple told me. They only saw my laptop for 10 minutes.

Thanks

That's an honest reply Dan and I truly appreciate it. If you looked at the condition of this MacBook Pro you'd fall flat on your butt.

The guys at Apple were at saying how in good condition my laptop was.

Oh well. . . . I think what I'll do is trash it tomorrow. Don't want to see it anymore in my office. But it sure is well taken care of.

Thanks again

Take the HD drive out so you can migrate your stuff over to your new system. I had a 15" Santa Rosa version which died last Jan I had to put it down too ;-{ It served me well and I treated it too with TLC. I feel your pain of a trusted friend.

It won't matter since I will not go with a laptop any longer. just purchased the new Imac 27inch retina 3.5 gzh

I am also keeping my Macbook pro as a souvenir. Can't seem to be to trash it :(

Even still I would take the drive out so you can destroy the drive properly as you don't want your personal data to get into the wrong hands. You can get external USB cases to hold the drive in case you want something on it or use it as a backup drive (good to have) if it still has some life in it.

I see your point, good idea. is that what they are called ? eternal USB cases.

Awesome idea mate - thanks

Sadly, they are likely right here.

You see the GPU in this series had issues and Apple only replaces logic boards. The other shoe to fall here Apple doesn't service these any longer - End of Life.

You still can find a few logic boards out there to replace yours, but you do risk getting stuck on a bad one so be careful how you pay for it and make sure you can get your money back if it is bad.

Are you sure you want to invest on fixing this system? You still run the risk of encountering a GPU failure later on.

I agree with Dan's answer but the problem is fixable for around $250 or so. In 50% of the cases, it works for a while. You need a little bit luck with nvidia GPU but it's worth it as the new one is 10 times expensive then repair.
