Can the screen be replaced with one from a 2008 MacBook Pro?

The screen on my MacBook Retina Pro has died. I have an old MacBook Pro that no longer boots up. Can I replace the 2012 screen with the one from the 2008? I'd love to have a complete laptop again without having to use an external monitor.
