can i install 3 gb of ram when apple says 2 gb is the max allowed?

Options

2GB of RAM is the max for this machine. You can install 3GB if you fancy, but your system will only recognize and utilize 2GB. If it were a Core 2 Duo, it would be able to address more RAM.
