550P5C screen hinge is broken.

One of my laptop screen's hinges broke which makes the lower panel of the screen borders jut out. This has no apparent damage to the screen however when i open or close the laptop the hinges make a cracking sound. How much would this cost to repair?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi,

I want to post this somewhere because it might be helpful to others. I also had the Samsung Notebook hinge problem. When I took it apart the screw insets for the hinges and plastic clamshell were broken, but upon inspection in became clear that the main problem was that the hinges had gotten stiff to the point where it was very difficult to flex them even with pliers. It was clear no repair would work unless the hinges were replaced or made flexible again.

I tried, cleaning with alcohol, acetone, lubing with light oil etc. but no joy. But under microscope I could see small hairs sticking out between the disks that make up the hinges, I thought that crap must be gumming up the works. So anyway, here is what did work. Heating the hinges in the flames of a gas stove for about 5 minutes to burn all that crap out. In my case that involved first cutting away a plastic sleeve over part of the hinge so that I was only heating metal, and then replacing it with electrical tape. After this treatment, and then the application of a little light oil, the hinges worked at expected and I have a repair that should hold.

Fantastic. So pleased I came across your post. Worked perfectly with a blow torch in moments! Who would have thought of looking at the hinge under a microscope - but you, obviously.
