Did you hold down the power button and the home button at the same time until the screen goes black? That will force it to restart.

DFU Mode Restore.

Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both home and power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release power button, keep holding home button for about 20 more seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. If the iPhone screen is black this is actually DFU Mode. Then Restore iPhone with iTunes. Done.

It seems to be an issue with the operating system software. There are at least three ways to get your phone to turn off. One is to force restart it (home and power button) and let the software reset then shut it down. two, turn the phone to never auto lock and force the brightness to full power until the phone powers down. That's if you have access to the settings and your phone is not locked up because of a bad install. The third option is to force the phone into DFU mode after the restart and erase and restore all the software.

The phone turns off I'm just trying to erase all the content on it so it can be given to my daughter ... It was my other child's phone and she had it jail broken .. the phone won't let me reset and erase all content .. It starts off by working and the apple icon appeares on screen for like 30 seconds with a bar under it than it disappears and goes to the spinning searching icon and stays thst way the phone is fully charged it and I left it in this state for 3hrs till I forced a restart to try again... I did this 3 times HELP!!!

You need to perform jcarm75 "third option". You need to put the iPhone into DFU Mode and Restore with iTunes on computer. This is the only fix because you are stuck in the Jailbrake. DFU is the only solution.
