Is EMI protection really necessary?

So this is the first time I've done anything like this. I thought the kit I bought would come with everything I need but hey it's the internet. It's hard to tell what will come with kits and what won't. So my phone had some water damage. Lines appeared on screen and rice didn't help either. So I bought this:

It came with everything, except I completely forgot about this wire mesh-like tape thats across the bottom circuit stuff. I think it's called EMI tape? Does anyone know where to get it? Is it absolutely necessary to have? I've been trying to take it off the old frame, but it keeps ripping and i don't want to completely destroy it. I want to get this done as soon as possible so any help would be absolutely wonderful. Let me know if I need to give more information, or pictures.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The tape you are referring to is not required to have your phone working. It acts as a shield or antenna depending on how your phone is setup to use it. I forgot what it is called, but it is usually made of copper.

Edit: it's called copper foil tape/EMI tape. And the shielding properties of the foil prevent the phone from potentially messing with other electronics.

That is helpful. Thank you. But I did notice some of it was silver looking, which I'm sure it probably isn't actual silver, but that couldn't be copper. And I feel if it is used like a shield or antenna, it should be necessary for the phone's operation? Would you/anyone know where to buy this? I don't want to accidentally purchase the wrong thing because I don't know if there is different types of this tape.
