No air from floor vents or defroster vents, only front vents.

I get good heat and air conditioning from my front vents, but when I select floor or defrost vents, the air still only blows from front vents. What's the problem and how do I fix it?

You will need to check the vent actuator to see if its functioning. The actuator is a controller that opens and closes the flapper that direct the airflow from the fan . This is under the dash on the passenger side . There are two types of actuators , electric or vacuum . If its electric you may simply have a blown fuse or it could be a bad actuator, if its vacuum you would need to look for leaks in the system. which could be in the lines to the actuator or the actuator itself . Hope this helps

Thank you so much. I have a 2014 ford Taurus SEL that's currently having this issue. I didnt want to have to take it to the dealer for them to over charge me.

I have the same problem and actually there are 3 of those things. You need:1) identify the problem as above (ie: no air (hot/cold) from ducts or windshield); 2) have someone scan the problem and identify which of the three is bad; 3) get your part with VIN number; 4) change, DIY or auto shop.

How do you get your part number using your VIN number?

by

Auto part store

Have a shop scan your problem. There are three of those actuators.

Just so you know, two of them are fairly easy to replace , the 3rd one I would definitely recommend having a trustworthy shop replace it.

I have a 2010 Ford Escape that was doing the same thing, ended up being the Air door actuator. There are two, one that controls hot/cold, and one that controls where the air flows. The one that was broken for me was the one that controls where the air flows, which was located on the drivers side next to the break pedal. Here's the part I needed:

So there are two door actuators in 2010 Ford Escape? 1 on the passenger side and #2 is by the break pedal?

by

I had the same problem, actuator by the brake peddle. It would slightly made a tick sound so I moved the white teeth gear with my finger and it moved after that on it's own. Guess the door was slightly slightly stuck since the defrost is used only on cold months.
