Chosen Solution

to remove new update you'll have to download the old iphone software. google ipsw 3.1.2 or whichever it is that you want. put phone in recovery, plugged in to itunes and when itunes says it has found a phone in recovery mode you'll need to press alt and click on restore (in itunes)(sorry this is for a mac, don't know the exact path for windows but it's probably on the site you get the ipsw from) then select ipsw you want to restore to. bob's your uncle, iphone restored

you may already have an old ipsw in your itunes library and can use that instead

ihackintosh is a good site for help on software problems

Hi Lisa,

Do the following on the IPHONE:

  1. go to SETTINGS
  2. touch GENERAL
  3. scroll all the way to the bottom
  4. touch RESET
  5. touch ERASE ALL CONTENT and SETTINGS
  6. while you are add it, Tap on all the RESET options, just to make sure
  7. lastly do what Mr. Essen wrote, just to Triple check all info is gone

Or if you have Mobile Me or you know someone who does, have them do a remote wipe to destroy all info on you IPHONE, IPOD, IPAD.

good luck

iTunes has tools for managing your phone. If you plug it into a fresh copy of iTunes and do a restore, it should remove everything. There might be an option to do a restore without a re-sync of your current data.

To un-update it is probably trickier. I have only done this with an iPod, never an iPhone. You might have to re-format it as a drive, then find someone with an older copy of iTunes to do a restore with.

Whether you are planning to give away your old iDevice to a friend or relative, donate to charity; you never know where your old device will end up. Don’t leave your personal information vulnerable to identify thieves; ensure it’s not recoverable by permanently wiping the iDevice with EafeEraser – think of it like a digital shredder.

Sync your iPhone to iTunes or store your iPhone can help you erase your iPhone data.
