powermac 2.7dp boots up to revolving cirle(STAR) then stops

my 2.7 dual does only boot up to the center of the screen small circle that revolves lie a clock. This eventually stops and that is it. I never make it to the blue screen. 2 gb pc3200 400 mem and 250 gb hard drive. 256 ati video that's it

Try booting from your system installation disk. Go to the second screen pull down menu to Utilities -> Disk Utility and see if you can repair the hard drive.

You should run disk repair until it reports no trouble found. +

Do a safe boot

(shift)boot or a single user boot into disk repair and report (comment) back. I can suggest other possible"fixes" after you've done that.
