Have you checked the wifi adaptor drivers in device manager or have you downloaded new hp wireless drivers?

Hi,

Check that your wireless adapter is working properly.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters, expand tree, find your wireless adapter.

Is there a red cross or a yellow exclamation mark beside your wireless adapter?

If yes - red cross - right click on wireless adapter, click on properties. New box will open, middle of box is Device status box. If it states device has been disabled, enable device (click cancel, then right click on wireless adapter, click on enable).

Check that your Wifi is now working.

If yes - yellow exclamation mark, go to the HP website and download the latest wireless adapter drivers for your model laptop and OS. Update the drivers then see if your WiFI is working.

If no, and wireless adapter status states that it is working properly and you still cannot see any networks to connect to, here is a link relating how to troubleshoot wireless problems in your laptop.

How can I go to the website if there is no Internet connection.

@markhj111 ,

Did you check the status of the WLAN adapter in your device, you didn't say?

Can you connect to the modem/router via an Ethernet cable at all?

If none of the above then hopefully you have access to another device that has access to the internet so you can view the troubleshooting procedures and then apply them to your device.

Hey John,

I know it may sound stupid but if your laptop has the WiFi Antenna icon button next to the Power button, is it lit up? If not try pressing it as your WiFi Antenna might be turned off/disabled.

If you look at the lower right hand corner of the taskbar where the date/time would be, do you see your Wireless Signal? If so, does it have a Yellow triangle with and exclamation point in it or a Red X?

you need to fix your power settings for wireless at maximum performance on battery as on AC power.

Hi @Shanntel Joseph,

If it is not showing up in Device Manager or if there are no options to enable/disable WLAN in BIOS, the WLAN module may be loose or faulty.

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop, taken from this webpage.

Go to p.66 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the WLAN card.

This will allow access to the card to check if it is connected properly and if it appears to be OK, try re-seating the card i.e. unplug and then re-insert and check if it now appears in Device Manager when the laptop is started.

If still no good then perhaps the card is faulty. On p.66 you will also find the part numbers for all the cards that are compatible with the laptop. Search online using the part number only to find suppliers that suit you.

The WLAN card already installed will have the part number on it or if not then at least the make and model number so this should help you to know which one may be the best to get.
