. So what initially happened was that the hard drive started to slow down tremendously. And a error message popped up stating that the hard drive was defective. I simply popped it out and inserted a new one. But now my laptop wont read any hard drive I have inserted into it.

JackMedina, if your drive is recognized by your computers BIOS, try to boot your computer from a bootable USB or optical disk. It is possible that your replacement hard drive does not have an operating system installed. You should try and install an OS on your hard drive.
If your BIOS does not see the drive, make sure that it is properly seated and that there are no bend or broken contacts. You may have a failed drive or problems with the SATA connector on your motherboard (less likely)

JackMedina how and what did you upgrade? does not detect a new HDD or the old one?

I would be more inclined to answer this question if more information was provided. Details are key with something like this. I also would like to know the answers to oldturkey and jayeff's questions.
Further more, how do you know it is not recognizing the hard drive? Is it a secondary drive(I think this is unlikely)? Based on the information you gave. I would say that you need check your boot sequence (if it is recognized BIOS). Are you getting any post screens/post errors (beeps)? Then I would say first and foremost you need to be sure it is seated tightly and screwed down (basically confirming that your physical installation for this was done correctly.) I know it does not seem like something that can be messed up but I am hardly surprised anymore these days. So double checking does not hurt. Then, I would try using a usb/cd installation media to put the OS back onto the computer if you replaced the OS drive. However, this is won't help if BIOS does not see the drive.
