42PFL5405H Philips TV does not turn on. Red light blinking 3 times.

Hi, during normal use the TV (auto)switched off, and the standby red led started to blink 3 times at regular intervals. I suspect it may be due to broken power supply, as the day before we experienced some overlaods during a bad-weather night.

Do you guys have any advice on what I could check with limited equipments in order to avoid spending (in first instance) lots of money for a professional repair?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

P.S. I already have tried to unplug it from power source and leave it unplugged for an hour or so, but nothing changed

This is most likely a main power supply failure. It will be easiest to replace it, but you may be able to repair it. Remove and examine for blown capacitors and cold solders.

Do you know which is the byw98-200 diode in the power supply board ?

Gianco, post some images of your power board with your question. For that use this guide. You will at least need some sort of multimeter. Level 1 Error 3 is a 12V error, most likely coming from the power board. This error can be caused by a shortened diode on the power board. Look for something like D210 and see if it looks "odd". Of course you can always go and replace the complete power board.

If had the same Problem on my Philips 42PFL5405.

The Problem was a Schottky-Diod (D210) on the Power Supply Unit. After replacing the D210 (Type SB3200, 200V, 3A) the TV works fine again.

This is a know issue with this TV.

In my case it was really D210. As i got TV (42PFL5405H/12) to repair, diode was already changed and so i don’t know it it was origin part. I replaced it with same type (1N5402) and it worked only for 30 minutes. Then i replaced it with RGP30 diode and since then TV is working again. Both broken diodes showed about 10 Ohm of resistance in both directions.

Please leave a comment here if this information was of any use for you.

@alexnoname great to hear that my 5 year old answer was actually right. Glad it worked for you and thanks for posting your 'answer'

Hi! I got a SQ552.1E LA TV that blinked 3 times. This diode was shorted out, changing it fixed the problem. Thanks everyone!

Hi! Another 37PFL5504 fixed that blinked 3 times!! My original diode was SB3200, 0 ohm in every direction. I've used RGP30D. Thanks everyone!

replace the 24V rectifier elements in the secondary circuit - Schottky diode SB3200 and filter capacitor 470uF.

I replaced with a new power board, but the same issue. Are the 24V rectifier elements outside the main power board?

@meeker99 no there are not. Give us your exact make and model as well as more history as in what is going on and what you have checked

I've attached pictures of the location (see my finger) of SB3200 diode, 0 ohm in every direction.

I replaced by a new RGP30D.

I love how you guys keep this post alive!

My TV has just stopped working, and it turned out that indeed the Schottky diode is faulty.

I am about to order it and replace tomorrow.

Thank you all! :)
