My down Dpad button is hard to press

Its been a while since I last played with my 3ds and today I decided that I should get back to whatever I was playing (Pokémon, Legend of Zelda). I then felt that the Dpad down button wasn't working, so I pressed harder and for that press it worked. Basically, I can only make that button work normally if I press it really hard. Is there a solution for this? I really don't want to buy another 3ds.

I'm actually in the middle of a repair for this problem, it's generally caused by liquid damage / dirt buildup.

This guide shows you how to access the button contacts: Nintendo 3DS ABXY Buttons Replacement

You need to peel up the silver cover and clean under it with 90%+ Isopropyl and let it dry fully. Or if you don't have any you can use a Q-Tip / Cotton Bud to try clean any dirt off.

Warning: If you haven't taken a 3DS apart before you absolutely NEED to have the correct screwdriver. You can buy a screwdriver suited for the 3DS on eBay for about $3. If you don't use the correct screwdriver you WILL thread the screws. I'm using a Phillips #000 at the moment.
