Can I access photos/information from a water damaged iPhone 5c?

Hello, my mother dropped her iPhone 5c in the toilet and quickly shook the water out and put it in some rice. After days of waiting the phone still has no response at all and nothing happens when plugged into a computer. I was wondering if I could take out the part which holds memory and apply it my own iPhone 5c then transfer her photos (assuming that part of the phone still works). I already took it apart and tried drying it but all the water censors were triggered. Any answers good or bad would be helpful thanks.

sadly its not possible. The memory is soldered on to the logic board and can not transfered to another device without bricking it. Even if you manage to change the ic properly it will not work, since the nand ic is "married" to differnt parts onthe original board and will ask for a restore. Long story short...you can not do it. At least not in the way you suggested.

But data recovery is possible by restoring part of the phone and recover the data. You need someone who really can handle a water damaged phones. Not many shops offer this service. You might have to search international and send your phone overseas, but you have of course to pay the cost, which will not be cheap. For example, in Germany/Europe, I charge about 150€. Not sure what the cost for that will be in your country. So ask yourself is it worth it, to your mother ?

Even tho my answear might not be much of help, at least I might have saved you some time by telling you for sure: You can not transfer the data IC (with the data still available) to another phone for sure.

If you want to tear it open lets try fixing it to see if it will work.Follow the tear down guide below. Lets start by cleaning ever connection with a soft toothbrush or Q-tip, use a 99% isopropal alcohol for all cleaning as well clean the logic board . now is the time to start drying out the phone. Set the screen in a desiccant or silica gel (rice is for eating and is a myth that you can actually dry your phone with it)leave it in for several day moving it from time to time to get the max effect from the desiccant . use a blow dryer on a low heat setting to dry the rest of the disassembled phone. replace the battery with a new one consider the old ones done. Clean again with isopropal alcohol let dry and when you think everything is clean and dry reassemble the phone (make sure to clean the contacts on the screen after removing from the desiccant). Once you've reassembled the phone its time to power it on. Hold your breath and hope for the best

Maybe in the future when I have a couple hours and patience to blow I'll try this out, but for now I think my mom has just accepted the pictures are gone for good. Thank you anyways

Might be a silly question, but did she ever back the phone up with iTunes? If she did you can recover the data from there, or iCloud if she had it enabled on the device?

Just get another iphone and log into her account on it and allow it to sync to restore any data backed up to iCloud.

Let us know if either of the above worked.
