Broken Screw Near Heat Sync

Mac Pro early 2009

Dear all,

When I was changing the RAM of my MacPro, I broke one of the screws near the heat sync. Please see the attached pic. The Genius Bar said they could only change the whole logic board which costs a lot. Do you guys know where I can find this screw? Or solve this problem in a cheaper way? Thanks very much.

Best regards,

Anna

can you post a pic. Is the screw a hold down screw for the logic board?

Did you break anything of the logic board off or just the screw

Doesn't seem to be any picture attached? Could you attach one?

Is your's one with the two removable RAM Cards or the one with the bottom trey that pulls out? Your photo did not upload.

Brendy, your comment was deleted in error, sorry, I am writing iFixit to repair it.

Would you remove one of the screws (4) from the corner of the processor plate. Your missing screw (there are nine identical), does not appear to me to be there correct one. A photo showing this screw and one from the corner could confirm this. I'd also like to be able to observe the top of the screw. I thought the spring went into the processor screw. This looks more like a pin to me.

I'm looking at the Service Source PDF on the MacPro (2009) tim.id.au/laptops/apple/macpro/macpro_early2009.pdf
