Why isn't my GPS charging?

I plug my GPS into the car's outlet, however, the GPS will not charge. What could be the cause of this problem?

Hi,

Here is a video that shows how to replace the battery in a Garmin Nuvi LM50. It will help you by showing how to open the case and therefore how to gain access to the motherboard. At 2:55 minutes into the video you can see the mini USB type charging port sitting on the motherboard.

If the port in your Nuvi is just loose on the board you'll just have to solder it back on. If it is physically broken (i.e connectors broken internally in the port) you'll have to replace it with a similar type of female mini USB jack.

This link should give you all the necessary tools that you require to open it. You may also require a soldering iron and solder.

There are a couple different reasons for this problem. The port on the GPS my be broken, the charger itself may have a short or the charger may not be connected correctly to the outlet you are using.
