Light Fixture Outside Adapter socket doesn't work.

The adapter socket Im referring to is the kind that you can screw a light bulb into the top of it and has two AC female plugs on the side and this adapter socket screws into any lamp or in my case my outside light on the side of my garage. The outside light bulb does go on it works fine. When I screw this adapter socket into it and screw into it the light bulb the bulb does not light up. I took the adapter socket and tried it inside of my house on a lamp and it works fine with a light bulb screwed into it. I went back to Lowes and exchanged the adapter socket and tried the whole procedure over again and the same thing happened. The adapter socket worked fine on the lamp in my house but would not work outside.

Extremely frustrating and confusing. Hope I explained this clearly.
