texts will not send or receive

My phone battery dies very quickly (5-6 hours), the time at the top of the screen does not advance, but if go to settings and toggle between the 24 hour clock and 12 hour clock it reads the correct time, but still dos not advance. And finally the texting feature hast stopped working. It receives texts but will not send and sometimes I receive a text 9-10 times repeated over about 1 or two days.
