Replaced battery, now only charges with wall power, won't sync

Hi there,

Ordered a new battery on the site, installed fine, minus one of the adhesive strips breaking while removing. a heating pad and careful use of a grocery loyalty card did the trick. Nothing seemed to break, no sparks, and I even still have touch ID. That's all good. When I turned my 5S back on it was at 50%, so I used it until the phone fully shut off, then went to charge it. Won't connect to iTunes on my macbook, won't charge while connected to the computer. Okay, wall chargers exist, and it now charges fine. But I'd like to be able to sync it still.

I read something about the foam on the top of the battery connector, so I popped it back open today and yep - no foam on the new battery. Couldn't get it off of the old battery, so I put tape on the bottom of the battery bracket to prevent contact. Still, same thing, will not connect through usb.

This is my first iPhone fix, so I'm willing to accept if I nudged something bad somewhere. Just wondering if there is anything else I should try? I am going to grab a little brush to clean the contact while I'm out today, but is gold contact cleaner alright, or should I get isopropyl instead?

Just wanted to follow up for any future searches. Replaced the flex cable, thought all was well when I plugged in to my work PC. Got home, still wouldn't work on my mac. Thats when I figured out that my macbook USB ports failed, (after testing almost everything usb in my house). A quick SMC reset on my macbook did the trick!

if the device won't sync, then it's not a problem with the battery, it's an issue with the charging dock/circuit. First of all, try a different cable. Second, flip the cable around and try it both ways. If you still can't get it to sync, then consider replacing the charging flex cable.

Thanks for the response. I have now tried with 3 different cables, one a brand new apple cable, one from my car (super cheap) and one that I've been using all along (not sure if it was original, a long one if it was). Tried both cable orientations on each one. Just cleaned the connector a bit with alcohol as well, still didn't connect.

I don't think it's a problem with the battery either, it just happened right after changing the battery. I can still use the phone no issue right now. I just reseated everything again and will test it out again. I haven't had any other lightning connector issues ever with this phone
