Why wont my phone charge?

I plugged in the phone and it wont charge, its a few years old and i want to know what i need to replace on it

Try these steps. Connect to wall charger with USB cable and reset, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds to see if you can get the iPhone to respond. Try another known working USB cable. Clean iPhone charging port with toothbrush and small amount of isopropyl alcohol. Replace battery. Replace iPhone dock assembly with flex, lower mic, and home button flex connector.
