Hi, If you would pick your Model MBP from the chart in my link and let us know how much memory you need we will link you to installation instructions. (It could be as little as 2 GB or as much as 6 GB depending on Model)

A1226, I currently have 4G of Ram two 2G, but this site says that you can actually put as much as 6G of Ram on this computer by running a 4G and a 2G. My question would be, if this is true, which slot do you put the 4G chip into.

I have just attempted to upgrade my MacBook pro4,1 (the lower case has been acts he'd so I can't read the model number), I have 2 x 2Gb SO-DIMM, however if I install both of them the machine doesn't boot. If I install eather stick along with one of the original 1 Gb sticks it boots. I have tried all combinations of RAM sticks in every slot... So long as there is no more than 3 Gb the machine boots.

Is there a trick to get it to work with 4 Gb (2 x 2Gb) installed?

First, please start a new question. Second we need to know exactly which machine you have. Please look in the battery compartment and give us the last three figures of your serial number. Thanks
