When starting to brew water won't enter the machine from the water reservoir at all . Hot water comes out of the rubber thing at the top of the water reservoir .

Lorna, not sure what rubber thing you are referring to. The very first thing I would check on is the filter in the bottom of the reservoir. Check this guide to see the location of the filter.
