1) My iPhone 4 32gb not even recognised when plugged into computer.
2) Iphone 4 battery charges sometimes and not other times. When it does charge the battery sign doesn't show up so you can't tell if it's charging.

I first suggest trying a different sync/charging cable to see if this fixes the issue with the PC not recognizing the phone. Make sure it is a sync/charge cable and not just a charging cable. If different cables or chargers do not fix the problem then there is likely an issue with the dock connector in the phone.
