My Toshiba Qosmio with 3-D screen has a black screen on start-up. There is no chime but I can hear the fan running and the power button is on.

Hi @photo_shooter,

Try connecting an external monitor and see if there is a display showing on it.

Thanks jayeff. I tried that and got nothing.

Hi @photo_shooter

just verifying:

1. There is no Qosmio logo on start up?

2. That you pressed Fn +F5 to check for external monitor picture?

Can you get into the BIOS area (press F2 on start up- if nothing shows power down by holding power key until laptop shuts down) and see if there is a picture?

What is the model number of your Qosmio laptop?

What OS is installed?

1. There is no Logo on start up.

2. Tried starting up holding Fn and F5 with external monitor. Got nothing

3. Tried F2, No luck

4. Model on the bottom: Qosmio X775-3DV78

5. I believe the prior owner said it had Windows 7

Hi,

You do not specify which particular model of Qosmio you wish to repair.

Here is a link to the Toshiba Qosmio X500 maintenance manual. Hopefully it will be of some help.

My Qosmio is an X775. I again tried to connect a monitor with no success. Do you think it might be my motherboard?

Hi, @photo_shooter,

Before we get that far try the following first.

Remove the charger, remove the main battery, then press and hold the Power button on the laptop for 15 seconds. Reconnect and turn on the charger (leave the battery out at this stage) and start the laptop.

If it starts successfully, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, then shut down the laptop in the normal manner.

When it has shutdown, switch off the charger and disconnect it from the laptop. Reinsert the battery, reconnect and switch on the charger and start the laptop. If it starts successfully, allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop. Once there check the state of the battery charge. If it is charging allow it to fully charge before you turn off and disconnect the charger.
