My circle pad lost upward directional sensitivity

I was playing Monster Hunter 4U when I noticed that my character did not immediately move forwards when I push the analog stick upwards.

I went into the 3ds XL system settings to do a circle pad calibration and found that pushing the stick upwards definitely had some issues. When I push in other directions, the crosshairs go immediately to the corresponding direction. When pushing the stick upwards, the crosshairs often go up slowly or at a stuttering pace.

Has anyone had this problem? Is this a mechanical issue or a problem with the ribbon? I did open it up, but I can't really tell the issue since I don't know how to open up the multilayered piece that holds the actual moving part and the ribbon.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hello there, i noticed my stick was not going full circle, i openened up my 3ds. then i took the stick module out.

i used compressed air to remove anything t might be obstructing.

then i used isopropyl alcohol on the module, flooded the thing and moved it until all alcohol was gone,

then repeated about 5 times more, moving the stick in all directions to make sure anything might that might be there gets out. flood the damm stick module with ISOPROPYL ALHCOHOL. remember that u only will use isopropyl alcohol or you will mess things up.

then used compressed air again for the finishing touches and to move the alcohol and evaporate it.

it works like a charm again, there were dust and other things there, alongside some dark substance that came out from inside the module.
