Is it possible to decompose the lcd, to get the electric parts?

Hey guys,

i`ve got a problem with my 27" LCD. The glas has broken on the upper left side, after an fall from the table.

I`ve got an identical part here, in which the glass is fine, but a gray bar running vertically through the image.

I would now like to build the electronics from the broken LCD into the other.

Has anyone ever made?

Sorry to say it just can't be done.

Think of it this way: You have a peanut butter sandwich and its really glued together well but you forgot the jelly! Now try opening it up what a mess!

This is the problem here as you would need to break apart the glass plates that make up the LCD sandwich to replace the glass plate that has been damaged.

While my example here is overly simplistic it's just not done even Apple doesn't do it.

Sadly it's time for a new display assembly.

Sorry to here the system you got has a bum display ;-{

Did you realize this was an issue with it before you bought it? If not you may want to get your money back.

If you got a good deal and everything was upfront then review this IFIXIT guide: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2639 Display Replacement as well as this guide when you are putting the system back together: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2639 Adhesive Strips Replacement. Are you up to fixing your system? Don't forget the special tools!

Hi Dan,

thanks for you quick answer.

I do not mean to replace the glass.

My question is, would it be possible to remove the electronic from my functioning LCD and change it with the other? There are little screws on the backside.

The logic is soldered down. Besides, your problem with the black lines is not the logic it self but the connection to the glass. We call these Tab errors, as the connections to the glass are broken. This is a common issue with the newer iMac's in the process of opening them if you don't have the correct tools or don't follow the IFIXIT guides to the letter you can damage the display.
