Check the pins in the tip with a tooth pick to make sure they are extending. Here's a video on how to repair them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd3RIV9sd...

Thanx. After my wife bought a new adapter (she is not a person who fixes anything), I did look at the computer end and discovered just what you suggest. Poked the little spring loaded contacts and they sprung like they are supposed to and all was well again. She now has a spare adapter.
