MacBook to iMac harddrive

Is it possible to transfer my hard drive from my MacBook A1342 to an iMac 2006?

Update (10/27/2015)

The actual hard drive, but the hard drive I want to put in runs El Capitan. Will this cause a problem?

Are you trying to move the data or the actual hard drive?

As you can see here: iMac 24" 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo (2006) the highest this series can support is OS-X 10.7 Lion unlike your MacBook which can support El Capitan. Sadly, this also means any applications that need to run on the newer OS's won't work in your iMac as well. You can access the files as the file systems are compatible but you will be limited with apps that can run on Lion.

If you are trying to move the actual drive I believe you should be able to but considering the imac will be 3.5inch and the macbook is 2.5inch you would need an different bracket or something along those lines to hold the actual drive.

Instead of trying to install the drive internally into the iMac I would recommend placing the drive into an external case (FireWire or USB). Here's a dual port unit: 2.5" SATA Hard Disk Drive Enclosure USB + Firewire 1394. That way you can access the files from your iMac.
