How can I replace the ear pads of an MDR-10RBT headphone?

The pads go in through the sides and I can't pull them out for replacement. There's no visible way of opening the housing either. Does anyone know how to replace the ear pads on this headphone?

Turns out it requires squeezing from the sides to unhook the clips.

Here's the clip:

There are 5:

They are hooked to the body:

Be careful not to break the plastic clips. These protrude from a plastic ring that's actually not part of the pad, but glued to it. The replacement pad sold does not come with this ring. You need to detach it from the old pad and glue it to the new one.

Sebouh, looks like it would require a slight twist. There are tabs in the back of the back of the ear pads that need to line up.

I tried twisting and pulling, but it's as if the tabbed plastic is held by something within the housing. I can't twist without ripping the leather apart, and that's only stretching the leather, not moving the plastic at all.

There is detailed information in the service manual (disassembly)
