wireless connection suddenly disseapeared & windows security centre

I suddenly lost all wireless connection.

My machine doesn't recognise any routers, and the network and internet part of settings shows no router at all. The first thing on the list is aeroplane mode which is turned off . Every scan I have done to try and find a solution and every trouble shooter I have done tells me it can't diagnose the problem. I have done all of the usual stuff like F3 & Fn keys. I have recently and stupidly downloaded Windows 10. Could this be part of the problem. I think I have tried every option that I can find. I have been told that the driver downloads are a waste of time.

Windows security centre is off and wont let me turn it on. My machine keeps telling me to turn it on but it wont let me.

I am now using an Ethernet cable from the router and that is working perfectly. also I can use my tablet- so it is definitely a laptop problem and not a router issue.

I have run a security check with Malware bites and everything is clean.
