Is there a hard drive problem?

I've been having issues with my iPod for a long time now. I just got this for the last Christmas that passed (so, 2014!) I used it for a while, but it stopped working around May or June of this year. iTunes told me that it was corrupted, and I was devastated, because relied on my iPod pretty heavily.

Maybe about a month ago, I was able to get it to connect to iTunes and do its thing, but when I tried to add more music to it again at a later time, it stopped working again.

I think there is a hard drive issue, b/c there is a loud whirring noise and little clicks, and hard drive seems to be where all the websites are pointing to. I just want my iPod back and need some guidance.

dogeared88, if it is no longer covered under warranty, use this guide to replace the drive.

Not terribly difficult, just opening the Classic is a bit of a bear. Replacement HDD are readily available and it will depend on your geographic location where you buy one.
