Why is my coffee froth darker than usual?

When I make the froth, normally it comes out smooth and at a decent pace, but this time it was slow and thick.

This is a problem that can be attributed to several minor issues. The first two are irreversible and are that the ground coffee was pressed down too firmly before frothing, or the ground coffee was too coarse. Similarly, two easily fixable ones are that there might just be too much ground coffee (remove excess coffee), or the ground coffee is too damp (remove and let dry). The final two are marginally more complicated and require cleaning to fix. The first is the espresso boiler being blocked, instructions on how to clean this are on page 10 of the user’s manual. The other is the filter being blocked, instructions on how to clean this are on page 10 of the user’s manual.
