Sadly, IFIXIT does not have a teardown or any real deep guides to reference here. Here is a copy of the Apple repair manual for this system. See if it can help you.
Sadly, finding good parts for these older systems can be a challenge. It maybe time to look at a newer system.
One of the problems you will have is transferring any files you may want to save to a newer system. Between the fact this systems hard drive is PATA you'll need to find a PATA to USB adapter cable to connect to your newer system and you may have issues being able to access the files unless you get a PowerPC system that runs OS-9 software. The newest systems are now Intel based and won't run your older software.

I probably have the parts, but what to replace?
If it would be the HDD it would not "Brumm". Sounds like a transformer gone bad which would lead me to an inverter issue. What do you think?
@ OT - If it was the inverter I would have expected the system to still give a startup bong.
@ Mayer - I'm happy someone still has the parts for these systems ;-} It was a cool laptop in its day.

Your PowerBook is humming or the power supply is humming? I'd start off by replacing the battery and trying to narrow down where the noise comes from. Translation: Ihr Powerbook oder das Netzteil ist brummen? Ich würde mit dem Austausch der Batterie anfangen und dann versuchen, einzugrenzen, wo das Brummen herkommt.
