I've had that sound on my L702X since I got it, 10 years ago. I thought it was one of the two installed hard drives, but they've been fine for a decade.

If you haven't done so already I suggest that you back up your personal data to an external drive.

HDD are electro-mechanical devices. The discs are spinning most of the time unless you have an inactivity time period set for them which stops them from rotating to save power.

Eventually they will fail. 10 years is good for a HDD that has a lot of use

Have you tried to isolate where the sound is coming from by disconnecting one of the drives at a time (if possible) or disconnecting both and entering BIOS menus for a while and check if the noise is still there?

It may be the fan as it is the only other component that has moving parts

Scratching sounds are usually from a Hard Drive malfunction. Backup your files and check a guide on how to replace them
