2015 21.5" ram upgrade

Is it true that the ram is no longer upgradable? I thought it was expandable to 32gb.

The 21.5" iMacs have had soldered RAM since Mid 2014 unfortunately =C We never did a teardown, but you can see the chips on the logic board in this guide iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2805 Logic Board Replacement

The newest refreshes (and the 4K) will almost certainly follow this trend. You can only configure up to 16 GB at purchase http://www.apple.com/imac/specs/

The new ones have Apple Authorized Service Center upgradeable memory slots.

This is only true for 27" models; every 21.5" iMac since 2014 has soldered RAM that cannot be user-modified.

Thanks for the clarification, true, they have to be upgraded by a certified center.

Can’t I just… take a soldering iron to it and replace the RAM that way?
