Optical Drive won't burn disks something about calibrating the Laser?

I just bought this MBP and the first time i tried burning a disk ( CD - Memorex and Sony ) using finder it didn't work it claimed failure " to calibrate laser " for the type of media. i tried using 8x speed and 24x speed. after about ten tries i was able to burn two of the disks that i needed for a client. i haven't tried using the generic boot up option yet. First wanted to check what other users have done about this problem.

thanks

If the laptop is new, take it to Apple.

If you've had it for a few years, the drive can be replaced. You will need this part. If you're choosing between the 6X and 8X drive, you're better off getting the 8X since it generally isn't much more expensive. The guide to install the drive can be found here.
