Now that iOS is frozen, what good is it?

I have an iPod Touch 32g 4th generation model MC544LL/A. When trying unsuccessfully to download a new app, I just found out that I can't add or update apps because they require iOS 7+, and my iPod device is "frozen" at iOS 6.1.6. So my question is: what good is this device now? It still syncs with my computer iTunes app so works as a music player, but will Apple stop supporting the device's interface with iTunes in the near future? Do I just accept that this device is obsolete and buy a new one?

Deb, it'll continue to work as an audio player. Just like the very first generations are still supported through iTunes. You'll have trouble with app's etc.

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted to know! I think I will keep this one as an audio player for my iTunes collection, and buy my husband a new one because he wanted to use apps like Pandora and iHeart radio.
