faint vertical lines on display

Block Image

Lines are just a lightening of the display about 5/8" across spread across width of display. Lines do not move. Brightness varies on each, but seems to be in a pattern, from faint to not there.

Also, computer shuts off randomly.

I have a picture if you tell me how to send it.

Thanks much!

What you are seeing are Moire lines. The cause is the intersection or the warping of the light. In some cases signal leakage can also cause this.

Often moisture gets between the cover glass and the LCD panel or the LDVS cable is bad.

The GPU on this 2007 model was notoriously bad also.

Thanks Mayer. That could explain the random shut down. At times, upper left side of case feels hotter to me. My issue is do I fix or replace the computer? If it is a bad display, no brainer. I would be willing to replace a power supply if the new one was more reliable. Just don't want a money pit.
