Using iMac Case for a PC

Hi everyone, I own an old iMac 20" Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz (model Number A1207) that i loved for it's design.

The iMac, as many of his generations, had the vertical lines problem, Hdd drive problems, and a faulty ram module so it's actually unuseful. But i can't simply throw it away.

I would like, as an hobby, reuse the case, putting inside a miniatx pc ad using the display. Do you think it's a possible operation?

Is it possible to find an adapter for the display cable ? i think the PSU unit could be reused because a MicroAtx pc should use very low energy and for the AUDIO/USB/FW/Ethernet port, simply use an extended cable to reach the ports on the rear.

What do you think ?

arturo, just a display adapter would not work. You still have to come up with something to drive the inverter. The easiest (but not easy) would be to transplant a 20" LED panel with a universal driver (it will only require 12V-20V power. You could tap from the motherboard PSU and place it in the same case as a MicroATX motherboard.

Thanks for your advice oldturkey, really appreciated!

Didn't think of this particular when i was dreaming. Then i saw the Kiwi iMac i5 installation, and changed my mind about the project: I could never accomplish the same result :(

By the way do you think is worth to buy a new logic board (90$ included shipping to italy, here they ask 180 euro about 200$) and ssd (50$) ?

If $100 get's it going again, not a bad price. I'd probably do it.
