What is the most powerful battery (mAh) that will work?

My battery status right now is at "Service Battery" and I would like to increase my battery life to the highest it can possibly go. What is the best replacement?

You need to use the one designed for your system. The slight differences from year to year will only buy you a few minutes. Here's the IFIXIT offering: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2009 to Mid 2012) Battery

If you want to lengthen your usage time I would recommend upgrading to El Capitan. As it now offers some new energy saving functions.

If these don't offer enough time I would recommend an external battery pack and/or a car/plane inverter if you travel. Here's an external battery: HyperJuice 2 External Battery for MacBook/iPad/USB (150 or 222Wh unit) and here is the inverter: Kensington Auto/Air Power Inverter with USB Ports

Thank you for your answer. I understand the software changes I could make but I was just looking for what the most powerful battery I could get that would be compatible with my system. Would that be the IFIXIT offering or would there be a larger powered one?

Sorry nothing larger possible at the present time. There are limits on what can physically fit in the space as well as it needs to be designed to work with the logic the system has. Over the course of time Apple has used better batteries as battery technology allowed. That was my point as you'll see different sized batteries listed all for the same system the lower Watt Hour units are the older ones. What IFIXIT sells currently the is the most powerful you can get.
