foam strip on lcd

Reviewing the photo guide to replace the LCD screen on a ipad mini, it shows the thin strip of foam tape being removed from the old LCD. Does that need to be placed back on the new LCD screen? It is not stated clearly in the instructions if this was necessary. When I ordered my new screen, the was a note stating that the thin foam tape was not included. I have looked at a couple different sites and have not found this foam tape offered. The original foam tape isn't very sticky anymore. Since it won't really stick, it ends up getting twisted each time I try to attach it. if it isn't needed, I will gladly ball it up and throw it out.

toss it. if its there, great, it keeps dust etc. from finding its way onto the lcd but don't worry if its not there.

ideally you keep it there as Bobby said. However it makes a huge mess if it starts peeling up, so I usually peel it off and then toss it.
