Need to replace motor original siezed. looking for non aluminum block!

I was told by my mechanic that he's got a 2003 Camry with a siezed motor, that's mine if I can find a motor for it! I'm not sure if it's a 4- or 6-cyl motor... so of course no idea how many liters it is. I know the basics about cars and that I can replace it with different models motors, (Solara for example) but can't find a resource to let me know exactly which years will fit the compartment and transmission, or which models I could use. If anyone can direct me to a site with this type of information, or just let me know which years or models I might be able to use? I know the 2003 Camry 4cyl motor is a problematic one mostly due to it being made out of aluminum, so I'm trying to avoid using the same model that's coming out of it.

Also, if you have any suggestions for things to replace while I'm at it? (Maybe something along the lines of, put in a '05 6cyl and replace transmission too?) Any help for an inexperienced diy-er would be fantastic!!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Veronica Haynes, the issues with going to a different year and different size will be the computer as well. Swaps like that are tough since your computer hardware will have to fit your engine, wiring and transmission as well.

Junk yards and purveyors of used Japanese engines will generally have the interchangeability books to see what fits where. If you are really determined to swap from a 4 to a v6, you might want to look for a salvaged "front clip" which should give you just about everything forward of the drivers seat.. should be enough to get motor, transaxle, computer, and wiring harnesses from. Most of the places that import used Japanese engines also import front clips.
